Paris. Oh lovely Paris... I've visited this city twice already and can't wait to go back again. Although my French is positively horrible :)

I loved travelling by train everywhere in Paris. Whether it was the RER train from the airport, subways or the train out to Pierrefonds - I guess you can already guess that whenever I'm in Europe, I prefer travelling by train as my mode of transport.

My advice for exploring the city from a different perspective - Batobus (a river-boat shuttle service in Paris). You can cruise all along the Seine river. As they say: "If you jump off a bridge in Paris you are in Seine."

It has the same concept as a hop-on hop-off bus, with stops at the main attractions, usually with Metro-stations (subways) close by making transport fun & easily accessible. The Louvre, Champs-Elysées, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral. These were some of my favourites, even if they are very "touristy", I still believe these must be on your bucket list.

As well as Sacré Coeur Cathedral. It is a bit further out, but the view over Paris is breathtaking. The area around Sacré Coeur, Mont Marte, is beautiful & how I imagined Paris. Climb all those stairs up from the subway to Mont Marte (elevators available). Climb the next set up to Sacré Coeur. You'll be greatly rewarded. Street artists playing instruments or singing. Photo opportunities. An art-square with paintings full of finese.

I've experienced both visits in Paris around Christmas-time. One memory popping in my head is walking down Champs-Elysées, visiting some of the shops along the way, including the Christmas markets - enjoying crepes with nutella and glühwein - ultimately ending as you walk passed the Big Wheel, through the gardens (Jardin des Tuileries) up until the Louvre museum.

Last but definitely not least - the Eiffel Tower. This is my friend's dream to visit and I'm hoping that on my next trip, we could visit the Eiffel Tower while combining our trip visiting other countries neither of us has been. Yes, the queues are going to be long - and I expect even worse if you visit during summer - but worth it. The lifts are crowded going up and down the tower - but such a short ride. Memorize it. Enjoy it.

Pierrefonds

Travel from Paris, Garde du Nord-train station, to Compiegne from where you can take Bus27 to Pierrefonds... As a warning, I only met two...
